Description | An Elegy on the Demise of Johannes Stöffler from Justingen, Astronomer in Tübingen is an obituary in mediocre elegiac couplets. Stöffler's colleague Theodor Reysmann not only praises the astronomical achievements of the deceased, but also recalls his activities as a grammarian, theologian and geographer. What would be strictly separated as science and humanities today, appears closely linked as various aspects of humanist learning.
Apparently, the poem has survived in one copy only, which is preserved at the library of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau. Since it has not been digitized, we cannot present a digital copy. However, a modern edition has appeared in 2013. |
